Maintenance Lead / Harbormaster
Poulsbo, Washington
$28.00-$30.00 per hour.
The Port of Poulsbo is seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Lead / Harbormaster to help lead Maintenance & operations at one of Washington’s most iconic public marinas.
Located on scenic Liberty Bay in historic “Viking City,” the Port of Poulsbo operates a vibrant public saltwater marina with over 250 permanent slips, boat ramp, guest moorage, waterfront facilities, and year-round maritime activity.

This leadership position reports directly to the Port Manager and is focused on marina maintenance, capital projects, and emergency response, but also may occasionally oversee guest operations in coordination with the Port Manager.
Responsibilities Include:

Supervising maintenance staff and projects.

Managing marina and facility maintenance
-
Fabricates items for Port and Harbor maintenance activities.

Installs structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing improvements.

Coordinating dock repairs and capital projects
-
Maintains floats and all dock structures, replacing damaged portions of wood and metal components and maintains associated electrical systems.

Responding to emergencies and safety issues

Overseeing derelict vessel procedures

Supporting marina operations and public relations
-
Supervising guest operations staff in Port Manager absence.

Oversee routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance for marina and Port properties, equipment, and vehicles.

Diagnosing and repairing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and appliance issues.

Manage vendor relationships and coordinate specialized repairs (roofing, HVAC, pest control, etc.)

Lead the maintenance team, schedule daily tasks, and ensure work orders are completed on time.

Develop and implement a preventative maintenance schedule to minimize costly repairs.

Monitor the maintenance budget, purchase supplies, and manage costs effectively.

Assists the Port Director/Harbormaster in drafting the annual maintenance and operations budget for the Port Maintenance unit.

Performs other duties as directed by the Port Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
A successful candidate must have the ability to manage multiple projects and must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to assess maintenance issues and improvement projects, provide a plan for a solution, while completing or overseeing many of those projects individually.
• Ability to operate and use various tools/machines required to perform groundskeeping and maintenance tasks (i.e. tractor, lawn mower, leaf blower, power tools, pressure washer, etc.).
• Ability to work well alone/self-guided.
• High school diploma or G.E.D. required. College or Technical School is preferred.
• Valid Washington State Driver License required.
• Experience conducting routine maintenance tasks: carpentry, plumbing, general repairs.
• Have a desire to help our team grow, restore, and care for the Port facilities.
• Have a positive attitude and enjoy working with a team.
Desired Experience
-
Marina, marine facilities, or public works experience required. 5 years preferred.

Significant maintenance and mechanical skills and experience.
-
Capable in Construction, Electrical, Plumbing, fuel delivery, and mechanical repairs.

Supervisory experience and leadership ability
-
Excellent customer service and communication skills
-
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced waterfront environment.
Knowledge of marina operations, fuel docks, boating systems, and Washington State environmental regulations is preferred. Candidate must be able to successfully complete a background investigation.
Work Environment
Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and/or toxic/poisonous agents. Work overwater and from a floating platform and/or boat may be required. Work is performed at varying heights, over water and under piers; work is performed in all kinds of inclement weather and is strenuous and physically challenging. Must be able to lift 50-75 Ibs.
Position Details-Full Time Non-Exempt Employee
Weekends, holiday, and emergency response availability required.
